How it all started...

The Effingham Church of God began in 1955 on Anderson-Field Road at Mona & Harvey Carraway's home as a Cottage Prayer Meeting with just a few men and women in attendance.  They quickly outgrew this venue and moved for a short period to a cleaned out chicken coop with wooden benches at Conyer's Store just a few doors down.  God was truly blessing.
The congregation moved to a brush harbor behind Norman's Gun Shop which was the only choice they had at the time.  They didn't stay there long before land was purchased by the old railroad track and a block building was used.  The church was then officially established in September, 1956.

From those humble beginnings, the church continued to grow and prosper under several men of God.  The church stayed in the block building until approximately 1979 at which time it was relocated to its current location.  It has gone through many phases, faced many ups and downs, but through it all has continued to raise the Banner of the Lord high to reach lost souls for the Kingdom of God.
